Everything You Need to Know About This Retreat

The Space

Castle Rock Trail Cabin is a thoughtfully renovated Cabin. Built-in 1980, 1020 sq ft 2 bed 1.5 bath, on a hill overlooking the Big Bear Lake Forest, surrounded by pine trees. It is located near Castle Rock Trail, Big Bear Village, and is convenient to all the ski resorts and mountain attractions.

Our home was remodeled in 5/2022, with all the modern amenities needed for a getaway in the woods while retaining its original charm!

Some quick old home facts. The kitchen is small, yet we were able to fit in a Dishwasher, Washer/Dryer, and Refrigerator. The dining table is somewhat movable so that when you sit to eat you can make it comfy for your family. Alternatively, you can sit at the outdoor dining table that has a bit more space. The heating/furnace is new in 2022, yet because of the architecture (no attic) no vents on the 2nd floor. So we installed electric heaters in each bedroom for those chilly nights. The home has two restrooms. The main restroom has heated floors. Please remember to turn them off when you’re done. The Cabin is adjacent to National Forest, which means wildlife is just out the door. The Cabin home has been updated but If you are expecting a perfect modern home, the home might not be the home for you and that’s ok.

You have access to the full property. The only area not accessible is the stairs closet upstairs and the storage under the front deck.

Right upon entering the front door, you’re greeted with breathtaking floor-to-ceiling views of the mountains and trees. You feel as if you’ve entered a treehouse! The dining table is bench seating and fits up to 4 people, 5 if you have little ones. Just in case we have TV trays in the living room. The decor creates a cozy environment for lounging and enjoying the views. Downstairs blackout shades are great for more privacy or for those that sleep downstairs. We also have an assortment of games available in the TV cabinet. Please note that the fireplace is wood-burning only. Please keep the fire screen up at all times. Leave the ash in the fireplace for the cleaning staff. Please no last-day fireplace fires.

Our kitchen features brand new appliances (gas stove/oven, fridge, microwave), and all of the essentials for a home-cooked meal (pots, pans, utensils, etc). We’ve also provided a pour-over coffee maker with coffee grinds and a hot water kettle.

Completely remodeled modern bathroom with floor to ceiling tile and a beautiful modern vanity. Brand new bathtub/shower combination, with great water pressure. Brand new Water Heater installed 2022. The primary restroom also has heated floors for the brisk winters. Please remember to turn them off when not in use. The primary restroom has a fan/Bluetooth speaker(Homewerks-JA162). The primary restroom has a digital screen that will provide you with the current outdoor temperature and time.

The primary bedroom features an Eastern King bed with luxury white sheets, duvets, and pillows. The second room offers a queen bed with luxury white sheets, duvets, and pillows. Pillows and covers for the sleeper sofa can be found in the primary room closet. Each bedroom features plenty of closet space and beautiful wood “tongue and groove” ceilings with exposed beams. Both bedrooms come equipped with a wall electric heater for those brisk winter months and ceiling fans during the warm months. The furnace does not have vents to the 2nd floor so best to use the wall heaters. Please note the stairs to the 2nd floor are quite steep.

The 1st floor has an entertainment area equipped with a new Smart TV, Jenga, and connect four games. There is also a washer and dryer for your convenience.

The backyard has plenty of space to explore. There are no fences so be courteous to the neighbors and do not enter their areas. It will seem obvious once your in the space.

Winter months
From late November to early March there is a chance it will snow at the cabin. The roads to the cabin are plowed, but please note if there is a big enough storm chains/4 wheel drive may be required. Parking is limited to a maximum of 2 cars. Although the cabin is adjacent to Big Bear Blvd the driveway is on a slope. You may have to put on tire chains if you do not have an all-wheel-drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle. We will provide snow shovels if it happens to snow during your stay. No outdoor fires under any circumstances. Do not leave food outside if you don’t want wildlife to come to visit.

Summer months
The Cabin has no Air Conditioning. We have installed ceiling fans in both bedrooms. I have been at the cabin when it was a crazy heatwave and the cabin cooled down just fine.

500 feet from Castle Rock Trailhead and 10 minute walk to Boulder Bay in Big Bear Lake. Backs up to the National Forest and at the foot of Castle Rock Trail. This location is special during the warm and winter seasons as it’s close to the village, hikes, and ski resorts. This home is surrounded by million-dollar+ cabins and nestled in the beautiful trees and nature.
